After having returned to the Juve starting lineup to devastating effect against Sampdoria on Wednesday evening, scoring two goals, Chiellini was forced off the pitch against Napoli after 39 minutes having picked up another muscular injury, in the Bianconeri’s 2-1 victory.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian International underwent instrumental tests with Juve’s medical staff which confirmed the presence of a distractive trauma of first instance to the posterior region of the right thigh.
Chiellini has had a history of muscular hamstring injuries over the past few years and his latest set back will give Allegri food for thought regarding who comes in to replace Chiellini against Lyon on Wednesday evening. If he sticks with his 3-5-2, then one of Benatia or Rugani will surely step in. Perhaps even Patrice Evra, who missed the game against Napoli and who played in Chiellini’s position in this system in Juve’s last game against Lyon in the Champions League.
Allegri could decide to change the system to 4-4-2, as he did against Napoli on Saturday evening once Chiellini came off, which could see Barzagli and Bonucci flanked by Evra and Dani Alves.
Either way, Juve do have options at their disposal but will be eager for their dominating centre back to return as soon as possible, expecting him to be ready for the game at home to Pescara on 19th November.
