Despite the fast and furious nature of the past three weeks, a period in which the Bianconeri will have played seven times come Sunday evening, Mario Lemina is confident that there will be no easing off from the champions against Chievo this weekend.
Speaking to Mediaset this afternoon after his side’s penultimate workout before their trip to the Stadio Bentegodi, Lemina took the opportunity to reflect reaffirm his team-mate’s application off the field and praise the strength and depth of the squad.
The key quotes from the midfielder’s media meeting are as follows:
Midfield strength
“We’ve got strength and depth right the way across the midfield and everyone knows they can contribute when necessary.
“We’re delighted to have Claudio (Marchisio) back in the fold; with his experience, he is such an important player for us. In general, we’re working as hard as ever off the field to gel as a team and to make sure we start playing instinctively.”
Progress, progress, progress
“We’ve only been together as a group for three months and we’ve produced some good performances so far already: the hard work starts here as there are still plenty of areas in which he can improve and become more consistent.
“We’re always looking to set ourselves up to combat and nullify our opposition, whoever they may be; you can never play two matches the same way. We’ve had and will have a packed fixture list for the majority of the season and the coach is managing our workload well.”
"Strong foundations” from pre-season
“I feel in good shape and I’m especially pleased to have put my injury problems of last year behind me. I’ve been able to start this campaign on strong foundations after a good pre-season."
