Mario Mandzukic is distressed that the arrival of Gonzalo Higuain to Juventus would drastically diminish his playing time next season.
The 30-year-old Croatian international arrived from Atletico Madrid last summer and enjoyed a solid debut season in Italy, netting 13 goals in 36 appearances and establishing himself as first-choice when fit alongside Paulo Dybala.
But with news that Juventus are preparing an earth-shattering bid to bring Napoli star Gonzalo Higuain to Turin, Mandzukic reportedly feels that it will be him, and not Dybala, that will have to make way for the Argentinian.
Mandzukic is aware that Higuain’s stature and credentials would immediately thrust him into the starting line-up for the Scudetto champions, and the towering striker may start looking for another club if the move eventually gets done.
Meanwhile, Mandzukic’s countryman Marko Pjaca looks to be edging closer to Juventus after they upped their bid to €23 million, which is still a bit short of AC Milan and Napoli’s offers of €25m.
Nonetheless, the Croatian has chosen Juventus over the other two clubs and the will of the player should be enough to get the deal over the line. If it all goes as planned, Pjaca should be visiting Turin for his medical early next week.
