Following his game-winning goal against Fiorentina, Gonzalo Higuain was deservedly praised by Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri, though he hinted there is more to come from the former Napoli man.
Higuain took just nine minutes and three touches to open his Juventus account in Serie A, as his first for the club earned the Bianconeri a 2-1 win over La Viola.
“When Pipita [Higuain] has the ball he scores goals,” an elated Allegri told Sky Sport Italia. “And he has still to improve his fitness.
"We didn’t see the true Gonzalo tonight, he scored but it wasn’t an easy chance.”
Although Juventus needed a 75th minute winner from Higuain, they dominated their opponents who rarely caused Gianluigi Buffon any issues.
“The team defended well, particularly for the period [of the season] we are in,” Allegri went on. “Fiorentina only managed one shot on target and on that occasion we conceded.
“We [still] have to get to optimum condition but I am happy with the team’s first game. In the second half we defended well and it is normal to be a little tired in this part of the campaign.”
Moving onto the transfer market Allegri indicated that Juventus’ business isn’t yet complete, with a midfielder the main target.
“Let’s say we are looking for one [a midfielder],” the coach went on. “We will see what the [transfer] market has to offer.”
