The Argentinian midfielder has been signed to Watford for around £10.3 million, as reported by The Guardian. Pereyra has had few chances of getting into the Juventus starting eleven. The tight competition in midfield left him with little playing time, barely giving him the opportunity to prove his worth to the club.
Pereyra is a very solid signing for Watford to make. They often overload their midfield, playing three at the back, with five players in the midfield. This gives Pereyra a big chance to get into the starting eleven as soon as he is cleared.
The Watford attackers, mainly Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo, should be very excited at the addition to the team. Pereyra is a great player to have behind the strikers, as he is able to make runs himself as well as set up the front men. His close control dribbling and fantastic crossing make him a threat going forward. He can play out wide and through the middle, meaning Watford can play him in a few different roles.
Watford’s next match is against Chelsea, who are just coming off of a 2-1 win thanks to Diego Costa’s late goal. In most cases, it would seem that Pereyra would not feature in this match. Ben Watson, however, picked up a red card last match in the team’s 1-1 draw with Southampton.
This means that Pereyra could be featured in a huge match against the Blues of London on Saturday at Watford’s Vicarage Road Stadium.
Whether he takes place in the first match or not, Pereyra will for sure make an impact at his new club. His play style suggests that he will have no problem fitting in with the pace and intensity of the Premier League. Both the manager and fans alike hope that Pereyra can show Juventus just what they have been missing out on. More importantly, though, show the club that they have made a smart decision in bringing him to Watford.
