Juventus centre-back Giorgio Chiellini warns Lazio are “a formidable team” ahead of their meeting on Saturday.
The Bianconeri haven’t lost to the Roman side in Serie A since January of 2003, with no wins in their last 11 meetings in all competitions.
Despite those statistics, the Old Lady won’t be taking the trip to face the Aquile lightly.
“Lazio have always been a good squad on a medium to high level,” Chiellini explained to Sky.
“In recent years they’ve always been battling to reach Europe, which sometimes they haven’t done, and they’ve got to the latter stages of competitions like the Coppa Italia so many times.
“We played against them in the Supercoppa and they’ve always done pretty well in the Europa League. This year what they’re looking for - and what was missing last year - is that connection with the fans.
“Paradoxically, the situation with [Marcelo] Bielsa which at first caused confusion could bring the Lazio fans back onside with the return of Simone Inzaghi.
“Then if you look at their squad they have a group of players who are all around the same level. The return of [Stefan] De Vrij will definitely help them in terms of how open they were last season.
“They’re a formidable team, and we’ll have to play a great game. A decent game won’t be enough to win on Saturday.”
