Filippo Inzaghi predicts a Juventus-Bayern Munich final in this season’s Champions League.

The former striker won the competition twice with Milan, as well as losing a final during his time with the Bianconeri.

“What will be the final? Bayern-Juve,” Inzaghi predicted in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.

“The Germans are very strong and [Carlo] Ancelotti is an exceptional Coach so I feel great affection for them. For Juve, meanwhile, the right year has come.

“Bayern are a very complete team, they really excite me on the wings. [Robert] Lewandowski is one of the best strikers in the world, [Thomas] Müller always knows where to be and Douglas Costa beats his man with ease.

“Juventus? They have three extraordinary strikers, because I think [Mario] Mandzukic is precious along with [Gonzalo] Higuain and [Paulo] Dybala.

“The club did very well to sell Pogba and then reinforce the attack with Higuain, the midfield with [Miralem] Pjanic and the defence with [Medhi] Benatia who is strong indeed.

“Juventus have only one problem: they have to win this time. They’ll feel a bit of pressure.

“Why? Because you win the Champions League with the whole team. Now Juve have an attack which worries opponents and they’ve always had a good defence.

“The sense of the sale of Pogba is the completion of the squad: Juve are now ready.”

Dybala and Higuain’s partnership has been compared to that of Inzaghi and Alex Del Piero, who has the upper hand?

“The two of them are outstanding, but Ale and I went to the final in our first year together…

“If Higuain and Dybala want to be better then they have only one path: win the trophy. It doesn’t just depend on them though, the goals of the strikers are just as important as defenders stopping them.”

Pippo was also asked for his analysis of some of the other favourites for this season’s competition.

“Barcelona have a crazy front-three and they’ve also taken [Paco] Alcacer. If you let them have the ball it’s tough, because [Lionel] Messi, Neymar and [Luis] Suarez are uncontrollable.

“That’s why you have to break up their play.

“Manchester City? I was impressed with them in the derby with United. It was a crazy first half, perfect. [Pep] Guardiola deserves congratulations, you can really see his ideas.

“The secret is that their movement without the ball is so organised that they can play [Kevin] De Bruyne and [David] Silva as outside midfielders. Then [Sergio] Aguero is a guarantee.

“As for Paris Saint-Germain, the departure of [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic will be felt, but I expect [Edinson] Cavani to get back to making the difference in a central position, because there will be a lot of crosses from [Angel] Di Maria and Lucas [Moura].

“Real Madrid? [Alvaro] Morata has added what was missing, he’s the man who can come in and change the game. He’s a top-quality part of an attack which already has [Gareth] Bale, [Karim] Benzema and [Cristiano] Ronaldo.”
