Giovanni Carnevali insists Domenico Berardi “never rejected Juventus but has only ever expressed a willingness to continue his growth at Sassuolo”.
Carnevali was previously on record as saying Berardi knocked back big offers over the summer to stay at Sassuolo, and the sporting director has now clarified that Juve were not among those in for the attacker.
“He really wanted to stay with us,” he told Tuttosport.
“And I’d like to make this clear: he never rejected Juventus but has only ever expressed a willingness to continue his growth at Sassuolo, especially when he discovered Di Francesco would stay with us.
Carnevali was also asked about Eusebio Di Francesco’s managerial credentials and Sassuolo’s reputation in the transfer market after the losses of Sime Vrsaljko and Nicola Sansone.
“He’s a great Coach and he’s already ready to Coach a great team thanks to his expertise and management skills,” he added.
“We had to slightly change our plans in the market: We sold Vrsaljko to Atletico Madrid and Nicola Sansone to Villarreal.
“In its own way, it’s another beautiful signal: Sassuolo have players who can tempt the big clubs in Europe.”
