A goal, a win, a rousing ovation from the home fans; Miralem Pjanic could not have asked for more from his Juventus debut in Saturday night’s 3-1 success over Sassuolo at his new home.
The expression goes that you should always start as you mean to go on and if the midfielder’s showing at Juventus Stadium is anything to go by, he is in for a fine first season in the black and white stripes. Speaking to the media after the game, the Bosnian had this to say of his scoring Bianconeri bow, with an eye trained on Wednesday’s Champions League opener against Sevilla:
“We won well today but I believe we can still do better. All things considered, the result is all that counts and we can go home happy tonight with three points in the bag. We executed our plans perfectly against what is a very tough side to beat. The way we played, we could have scored five or six.”
“We have so much competition for places in forward positions which can only be good for the team, we are all focused on winning together and supporting each other. I felt at home in the role I played this evening but I’ll play wherever the boss needs me to.
“In the form of Sevilla, we’ll be talking on a side that is used to competing at the very highest level: our Champions League campaign begins on Wednesday and we want to kick off what we hope will be a long and fruitful European journey with a victory.”
